Living in small college town, you don't see your everyday student wearing a spiked necklace and graphic tee to class. Punk trends are accepted by few individuals who dare to be different, at least this is true in the city of Athens. The image show on the left is an outfit featured on the Nasty Gal website. When I am walking around New York or LA it is very common to see your everyday person wearing this to class, running errands, or maybe even out on the town. I believe that the Punk trend is very prominent in larger urban areas and in youth. Middle aged women  would not be seen wearing this particular outfit or anything similar. I see the Punk trend remaining popular on the runway and it being toned down by retailers so it can appeal to consumers.  Punk inspired accessories will also be worn to spice up an outfit but never the entire punk look. I also do not see retailers in Athens taking on this look and featuring it in their stores in the future.  Punk is hard trend to be pulled off by the masses.

When you try to look up the definition of Punk there is no clear definition. Instead you get a list of stereotypes in society who claim to wear punk fashion. Some of these stereotypes include anarchists and band junkies. If I were to define punk in my own words I would define it as a movement. Punk is daring to be different, defeating the stereotype, or as Vivianne Westwood would put it, "put a spoke in the system some way."  Punk is about anarchy and revolt. Fashion innovators wear punk not the masses. Punk is associated with rebellion and anti-establishment.

"Punk is not just the sound, the music. Punk is a lifestyle." - Billie Joe Armstrong

"To me, punk is about being an individual and going against the grain and standing up and saying 'This is who I am'." - Joey Ramone

"For me the safety pin is about rebellion, and I'm punk in the soul." - Donatella Versa

"I don't think punk ever really dies, because punk rock attitude can never die." - Billy Idol

"Punk is not really a style of music. It was more like a state of mind." - Mike Watt

"Punk's influence on music, movies, art, design and fashion is no longer in doubt. It is used as the measurement for what is cool." - Malcolm McLauren
